Ivy and Max WIN Reflections Contest!

Just got back from attending an Open House at the school where Ivy and Max were being honored for winning in their category and age group of the Reflections program. The theme this year was Diversity Means...

Ivy did a watercolor of dogs because she "likes dogs". Her painting is called Colorful Dogs and shows that the world is a more colorful place when there are differences. There is just something about this painting that I love...can't really say anything specific, but it is a cool picture!

Max did a stop motion film called, Black and White that shows these two different little guys coming together and working as a team. Showing diversity can mean people of different color, culture or beliefs can come together and actually be stronger as they work together instead of against one another.

He took over 500 pictures with our digital camera and worked for 2 weeks on this short film. He was amazing in his vision and the ideas that he expressed. SO, it came with great disappointment when they didn't have the right device to play it on today at the open house. Granted it was the PTA putting it on and they weren't the judges and they were doing the best they could... and they are VOLUNTEERS no less...but still it was so hard to watch Max's devastation in front of his peers. He was SO excited to show off his hard work for his class when he first entered the competition, but his teacher didn't have the right device in her classroom, THEN he wins the competition and they don't have the right device to show it on at the Open House. He is so proud of it and really wants everyone to see how cool it turned out and believe me it is cool! (we will show the final movie once the competition is completely over)

Roger and I felt so bad...we decided we would bring a copy to his teacher at our parent teacher conference today and see if one of the formats we have will work so she can show it to the class tomorrow before the Thanksgiving Break. We also need to make sure that before his entry moves on to the higher levels of this competition they will have what is needed to view his movie. Ugh! I DO NOT like seeing my kids devastated!!!
